Why use cotton instead of silk as duvet cover?
|
| For a long time the Western world recognizes silk from
the Orient for its shininess, smoothness and sensual feelings when
touched. Most bedding companies use silk as covers, bed sheets and
pillow cases, etc. for these obvious reasons. Although silk is soft and
tensile, It' s fragile under treatments of water and chemicals. When
silk comes in contact with chemicals, it loses its nature of smoothness
and tensility. Strictly speaking, it is inappropriate to turn silk into
products that requires frequent washing with chemicals. On the contrary,
cotton is more durable in this sense. High thread count cotton cloths
also offer silk-like smoothness and yet able to withstand modern day
cleaning method of constant machine washing with strong chemicals. Dry
cleaning is the only method to clean the dirty spots on silk products.
To avoid chemical induced allergies, cotton covers and bedding
accessories are more appropriate partners with silk-filled comforters.
